Hands down one of foods I could not live without are POTATOES!
Fries are something I felt like I was missing out on for while. Most all restaurants I would get fries at, especially really good garlic fries, were all deep fried in vegetable oil and most weren’t vegan either!
Unfortunately fried food would trigger stomach issues to eczema for me and just something not worth eating.
Thankfully I still found a way to create the same exact flavor and texture of restaurant quality fries and I am thrilled to share one of my favorite fry recipes with you!
These vegan garlic fries are packed with savory and salty flavor and made using an air fryer. The trick to giving fries that incredible taste is actually added some sweetener.
McDonalds fries actually contain dextrose, which is an artificial sugar alternative. Though, it is clearly not a healthy option it adds the sweetness that brings out the sweetness in the potatoes and makes a great contrast to the salty element.
Using Healthy Alternatives
Instead of using sugar or artificial sugar, I use a little bit of maple syrup which really gets the job done. To substitute the vegetable oil and deep fryer, use avocado and an air fryer. This Power XL one is my favorite to make all my fries. It’s incredible how little oil you need when using an air fryer to make the perfect vegan garlic fries!
Making Vegan Fries
It’s really easy to make vegan fries and vegan garlic fries at home. The key is using good quality oils, as some restaurants use animal byproducts in their fries, as well as topping it with some vegan “parmesan”.
To emulate parmesan on these garlic fries, I grate a few Brazil nuts, not only are they packed with vitamins but have a very similar taste with parmesan, without the dairy.
