This is one of my favorite green smoothies and you can make it completely out of pantry items and frozen fruit. It’s an incredible way to get tons of nutrition to start the day and it’s absolutely delicious! I love to start my day with something that’s going to give me a natural energy boost and boost my immune system. Incorporating unique spices into your diet is one of the best ways to do this and it’s incredibly easy to do.
Often we don’t put enough spices into our diet, especially our breakfasts. We don’t tend to spice our smoothies but I’m hoping to change that. Adding in some ginger, turmeric and/or cardamom are great ways to add the added vitamins minerals and anti-inflammatory benefits of these spices. Not to mention they add so much extra special flavor. These pair well with a lot of fruit, I’ll even add them to berry smoothie. These allows to me consume ginger and turmeric almost every day or even a dash of cardamom goes a long way. It’s a phenomenal way to support healthy circulation. I like to think of it like adding little supplements to your cooking in every dish.
Can I omit the banana?
Yes, if you don’t want to use banana just add in extra mango and/or pineapple and it will still be as delicious and packed with nutrients!
Start your day with the ultimate Superfood: Spirulina
Spirulina has been regarded as one of the best superfoods for many years now in the health and wellness space. Spirulina is no trend, it’s here to stay! It’s one of the most nutritionally complete foods you can consume (don’t worry, a little goes a long way!) containing protein, iron, B vitamins and so much more! Instead of adding in a synthetic protein powder to your smoothie, add spirulina…it’s packed with it! Not mention it’s incredible for gut health, eye health (it has more beta carotene than carrots!) and it’s incredible at safety removing heavy metals in the body. I like getting in the habit of adding a little spirulina into my daily smoothie.
Are there medicinal mushrooms in this smoothie!?
Yes! Not to be confused with magical mushrooms, medicine mushrooms are some of the most remarkable things we can consume for our overall health and immune system. Chaga powder is made from the mushroom, chaga. Making it a really easy to consume in either a smoothie or tea. Mushrooms have such an incredible health benefits and sometimes can go overlooked when thinking of supplements. Chaga has amazing anti-inflammatory properties and really help boost energy levels! Chaga is anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, anti-fungal, anti-candida, and anti-parasitic so needless to say it’s a great staple to include in your medicine cabinet!
- ⅓ cup fresh squeezed orange juice
- 1 inch piece of ginger, peeled
- 1 inch piece of turmeric, peeled
- 1 large frozen banana
- 1 cup frozen mango
- 1 cup frozen pineapple
- 1 tsp chaga powder
- ¼ tsp cardamom
- ½ tsp spirulina
- Add all ingredients into a blender until smooth. I like a thick smoothie so I use all frozen fruit but it’s optional if all your fruit isn’t frozen. Even if the fruit banana isn’t frozen it will still be a thicker consistency.
- I like to top it with shredded coconut or make into a smoothie bowl and enjoy!
