Make anti-inflammatory tacos with my vegan white “fish” taco recipe using the magical exotic fruit, soursop or atemoya!
My Personal Relationship with Food as Medicine
When my mom was first diagnosed with cancer many years ago, we immediately turned to food as medicine.
I was amazed to learn how many foods could not only feed inflammation and cancer but there were many foods that helped to fight cancer cells and lower inflammation in the body.
When I became completely plant based years ago, my mom also said she wished there a vegan fish recipe that could mimic the taste and texture of a white fish, like some of out favorite fish tacos growing up in Southern California.
For a while, I didn’t think it could be done, especially with a whole food ingredient.
Then I came across Soursop and was BLOWN away by how I could transform it and it’s INCREDIBLE health benefits!!
Aside from their health benefits they are one of the most incredible substitutes for fish in the taste and texture! It’s truly amazing and I’m so excited for you to try this recipe!

FAQS
Can I use soursop or atemoya in this? What’s the difference?
Yes, either work in this recipe! They are very similar. Atemoya is a cross between Soursop and cherimoya.
What if I can’t get either of these fruits? Is there a substitute?
Yes! You can make this recipe using hearts of palm or coconut meat instead of the soursop. For hearts of palm, you can 1 16 oz. Drain the hearts of palm and chop into 1 inch pieces and follow the rest of the recipe. For the coconut meat, I recommend marinating for at least 3o minutes and enjoy uncooked.

Vegan White "Fish" Tacos with a SECRET Ingredient
Ingredients
- 1-2 soursop or atemoya depending on size
- 2 tbsp coconut aminos
- 1 tsp tahini
- 1 tsp maple syrup
- 1 tsp kelp flakes
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp chili powder
- 1/4 tsp sea salt
- Olive oil or avocado oil for cooking
- Squeeze of lime for topping at the end
- Green cabbage slaw for serving
Instructions
- Prepare the Soursop: Start by peeling the soursop and removing the seeds. Break the fruit into small, bite-sized pieces.
- Make the Marinade: In a small bowl, combine the coconut aminos, tahini, maple syrup, kelp flakes, garlic powder, chili powder, and sea salt. Mix well until the ingredients are fully incorporated.
- Marinate the Soursop: Place the soursop pieces in a bowl and pour the marinade over them. Gently toss the soursop to ensure each piece is evenly coated. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
- Cook the Soursop: Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a drizzle of olive oil or avocado oil. Once the oil is hot, add the marinated soursop pieces to the skillet. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring halfway through, until the soursop is lightly browned and heated through.
- Finish with Lime: Once the soursop is cooked, remove it from the heat and add a squeeze of fresh lime juice for an extra burst of flavor.
- Assemble the Tacos: Serve the cooked soursop on warm tortillas, topped with your favorite green cabbage slaw.
- Enjoy: These vegan fish tacos are now ready to be enjoyed. The combination of the soursop's texture and the flavorful marinade will leave you amazed at how closely it mimics traditional fish tacos.
