This is my go-to drink in the morning! It can improve mental focus, physical performance, energy levels, cleanse the liver and improve digestion. It tastes just like coffee, but without any of the effects of caffeine. As someone who lives with Adrenal Insufficiency (meaning your adrenal glands do not produce enough cortisol) I do not consume caffeine.
Due to my illness, I have dealt with chronic fatigue, brain fog and memory loss. I stay off caffeine however because it taxes the adrenal glands. Therefore I don’t believe that it helps for my body’s recovery and that high amounts for anyone is really not beneficial. After having one of my adrenal glands (with cortisol-producing tumor) removed about 3 years ago and having Adrenal Insufficiency I realized just how important and vital (literally!) our adrenal health is.
With that said, I wanted to make a drink that would improve my energy levels and mental focus that was sustainable and it didn’t come with the crash, aka caffeine.
One of my favorite products is Dandy Blend. It is a coffee alternative that is completely gluten free. Dandelion can be very beneficial to cleanse and strengthen the liver. For the milk alternative in this drink I like to use a homemade almond or coconut milk. If you want to make an easy coconut milk, follow this recipe. You can use any milk you like but always check to make sure there are no added sugars. The less ingredients the better! For the sweetener I highly recommend raw honey or 1 to 2 dates depending on how sweet you want it. These sweeteners are so nutritious and the raw honey will elevate the nutrition of the chaga. Great for morning or an afternoon pick me up!
- 1 tbs Dandy Blend
- 1 tsp chaga powder
- 1 cup of dairy free milk (I prefer coconut or almond)
- 1 tsp raw honey or 1-2 dates, pitted
- pinch of pink sea salt (optional)
- 1 tsp of Cinnamon (optional)
- Add all ingredients to Vitamix or highspeed blender.
- Blend on high for a few minutes or until it gets very warm.
- Pour into a mug and enjoy warm!
- You can add cinnamon to garnish on top.
- Variation: Add ice cubes for an iced latte (so delicious!)
Drink warm or add some filtered water ice cubes for an iced latte!
Hope you ENJOY this one!
